INTERNATIONAL PATHWAY
The European Spartan Tour.
Every year since 2022, Thunderbolts Academy has taken its handball pathway to Europe. Players from our school and community network meet international competition, culture and possibility.
The journey belongs to more than one school.
The European pathway draws from Delft and Khayelitsha clubs, the wider Thunderbolts network and our Southern African relationships. On tour, players compete, learn to travel together, form friendships across languages and carry their communities onto a world stage.
The record is visible beyond our own telling. Interamnia lists Thunderbolts Academy among its South African participants. Curro recorded five Delft learners joining the 2023 tour and ten representing the academy in 2025. Italian coverage named Thunderbolts player Zintle as Miss Interamnia 2025, an achievement off the court that shows how exposure can reveal another kind of talent.
Interamnia founder Pier Luigi Montauti also described a friendship with Thunderbolts Academy and their collaboration with the South African Handball Federation on a proposed Cape Town tournament. In 2025, the Zimbabwe Handball Federation appointed Thunderbolts to organise its senior national teams' European tour. The opportunity has grown into a regional bridge for athletes and organisers.
